It finally happened.
Over ten years of having childen and we made our first trip to the ER today (for Brooke).
We were having a fun time at a friends birthday party this afternoon and I was in the sun room next to Brooke as she played. She just started really walking in the past week and she toppled over a toy stroller and hit her face on the floor - on carpet! It looked like a pretty gentle fall so the dad I was talking to (a father of 6) & I were both surprised by how much she was bleeding.
SO. MUCH. BLOOD.
Don't be fooled by her smile - as soon as Brooke saw me pull out my phone she put on a smile for the camera. she wasn't quite so cheery for the next picture.
Friends at the party kept the three oldest kids while we left to treat Brooke. The first walk-in clinic turned us away because she was too young and the second examed her (for free!) & couldn't determine if her nose was torn all the way through so they sent us to the ER.
It was actually quite fast, we were in & out in less than an hour. The doctor walked in, wiped her nose a bit, looked at it, & told us to put Vaseline & bacitracin on it. Praise the Lord, that was it!
$250 later we walked out, grateful she didn't need stitches but frustrated at the money we threw away! We don't tend to overreact with the kids but when this injury first happened it looked awful. There was profuse bleeding and a noticeable gap in the skin - it really looked like it could've ton all the way through!
By the time the doctor saw her it was 2 hours post injury & already looking better.
It's been such a long day - I couldn't sleep last night so I've been up since 4am but didn't go to bed until after midnight. Definitely need more sleep tonight!
